Philadelphia Inquirer Reviews ‘Fragile Boundaries’

Philadelphia Inquirer just covered a group show I am in at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art. The author, Edith Newhall,  points to a few works to describe curator Julien Robson’s “attraction to art that pushes beyond the expectations of its particular medium – and that refuses to be easily categorized.” Two of the more obvious examples of resistance in Robson’s exhibition are Virginia Maksymowicz’s fulsome Panis Angelicus, a cast plaster sculpture of what appears to be an upper section of a Corinthian column overflowing with cast-plaster loaves of bread and broken plaster ornamentation, and Leslie Friedman’s Tasty, an installation…

USA Project Fundraiser Launched

Calling something a “dream come true” sounds cliché (and it is).  But in the case of the project I am working on right now, it actually is a dream come true, particularly because my dreams tend to be vivid soap operas with loopy non-sequiturs where just about anything can happen. For the last three years, I have been playing around with identity politics and Jewishness.  The experimentation culminated in a show called Glitzianers in which I transformed a gallery room into bright, shiny, woven pathways that moved from the floors to the walls. August 1 2012 – August 26 2012 15th Annual National Small Works Leslie Friedman’s Temple Tile and Nasty Button (see below) are amongst the selected small works on exhibition this summer at WPG. From the WPG website: Juried by Brian Garner, founder and master printer, the Litho Shop, Inc, Baltimore, MD. Functional Skateboard Halfpipe for ArtPrize!

For years now, I have dreamed about making a functional skateboard halfpipe and finally my dream has come true!  I have been selected by ADORATION, a Detroit-based curating duo, for one of their sites for 2012 ArtPrize.  Due to the scale of this project, I will be making a Kickstarter Campaign to fund this project and will be looking for your help. The Future of Jewish Art: One Artist’s Perspective

Tuesday, April 24th at 7:00pm Hillel at Temple University 15th and Norris, Philadelphia, PA Open to the public Professor Leslie Friedman is offering a talk on Tuesday 4/24, 7pm at the Rosen Hillel in light of the visiting art exhibit, Transcending History: Moving Beyond the Legacy of Slavery and the Holocaust. Professor Friedman teaches at Temple University and University of the Arts, and her artwork, which is inspired by her own Jewish identity and journey, has been featured here in Philadelphia and across the country. 2012 Oso Bay North American Printmaking Exhibition

Over 270 artists from the U.S. and Canada submitted a total of 960 works for consideration for the Oso Bay Printmaking Exhibition.  Leslie Friedman is among 78 artists selected for the exhibition by Jurors Bill Fick and Tom Huck.  They chose Cargo For Port Derby (2010) for the exhibition.
