9.19.2012-10.7.12, Calder Plaza, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Curated by Adoration Detroit
Half Piped Ideas was a functional skateboard half-pipe sculpture created for ArtPrize 2012, the citywide month-long art festival in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The ramp sculpture was installed outside in Calder Plaza, a municipal square surrounded by government buildings. The ban against skateboarding was lifted in the plaza for ArtPrize and daredevil skateboarders, BMX bikers, and the like were invited to enjoy the ramp.
The imagery from Half Piped Ideas deals with Jewish stereotypes. At the peaks of the ramp you will find the most positive stereotypes and in the valley the dangerous, most negative ones. The imagery from this piece later went on to be find new life in Fun Guys.
